Hot Titles To Go With Warm Weather

There may not be a better time for book lovers than spring, as this is the time of year when many publishers often release the best they have to offer. Here is a handful of especially intriguing and recently arriving titles at River City Books (plus one highly anticipated offering that will be published very soon):

1. Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life by Barbara Kingsolver

Comment: In Kingsolver’s words: “This is the story of a year in which we made every attempt to feed ourselves animals and vegetables whose provenance we really knew ... and of how our family was changed by our first year of deliberately eating food produced from the same place where we worked, went to school, loved our neighbors, drank the water, and breathed the air.”

2. The Yiddish Policemen’s Union by Michael Chabon

Comment: A gripping whodunit, a love story, an homage to 1940s noir, and an exploration of exile and redemption by the Pulitzer Prize winner.

3. Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking by Malcolm Gladwell

Comment: This otherworldly bestseller from the author of The Tipping Point is new in paperback.

4. At the Center of the Storm: My Years at the CIA by George Tenet

Comment: Perhaps you’ve heard about this one? It’s gotten a bit of press. Now you can see what the fuss is about.

5. The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick

Comment: Combining elements of picture book, graphic novel, and film, Caldecott Honor artist Selznick breaks open the novel form to create a new reading experience for young adults in a spellbinding mystery.

6. A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini

Comment: Pre-order the follow-up effort from the author of The Kite Runner , a huge seller at River City Books last year and a book that has sold millions of copies nationally. “A Thousand Splendid Suns” will be on the shelf later this month.
