Purple Door Youth Theater is back in full swing!

Student auditions for the holiday classic: It’s a Wonderful Life are October 4 and 5 at the Northfield Arts Guild Theater from 4:00 to 5:30pm.

Most roles are for Middle & High School students, with a few roles for younger kids (min grade 3), as well.

Widely considered one of the most inspirational and beloved stories in American film, It’s a Wonderful Life, translates beautifully to the Guild stage in this imaginative 1940’s style radio-on-stage production by Tony “Sparx” Palermo. This adaptation is designed as a live theater production with all the pizzazz and delight of golden era live radio shows, including students as live sound effects artists.

George Bailey has spent his whole life giving up his dreams to help others. When his Uncle Billy loses the funds belonging to his small loan business and George realizes that he will be held responsible, he believes his family and friends would be better off without him. On Christmas Eve, his guardian angel, Clarence, has a better idea.

Rehearsals begin the week of October 25, and will run Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays 4pm – 6:30pm at the Northfield Arts Guild Theater, 411 Third Street W, Northfield. Performances are the first two weekends of December at the Guild Theater.

Purple Door Youth Theater is directed by Rachel Haider, an accomplished theater arts director, instructor, and performer.  Directing shows with both adults and children of all ages, her extensive resume’ includes work with professional, community and educational theaters. Some of her recent area productions include Beauty and the Beast, Jr., The Lion in Winter, The Importance of Being Earnest, Peter Pan, Prince and the Pauper, Matilda, The Great Northfield Bank Robbery: A Love Story, Mansfield Park, Les Misérables School Edition, andThe Miracle Worker.  She has taught in public and private schools, as well as with several arts organizations. Rachel recently retired from the position of Performing Arts Manager with the Northfield Arts Guild.
