Romantic Spring classical concert

The Cannon Valley Regional Orchestra (CVRO) will present two performances of Romantic Spring, a concert featuring music invoking the springtime season, on Saturday, May 11 at 3pm at St. John’s Hall, 500 Third Street West, Northfield, and Sunday, May 12 at 3pm at Kenyon-Wanamingo High School Auditorium, 400 6th Street, Kenyon.

The concerts will feature Hugo Alfvén’s Midsommarvaka (also referred to as Swedish Rhapsody no. 1), Edvard Grieg’s Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in A minor, Movement 1 and Karl Goldmark’s  Rustic Wedding Symphony  The concerts will beperformed under the direction of CVRO founder and conductor, Dr. Paul Niemisto.

Niemisto says, "This concert, with music of springtime, is a way to celebrate the end of a very rigorous Minnesota winter. For me these musical phrases evoke the green vistas, the flowers and birds, and the smells of fields and forests."

The Grieg Concerto will feature piano soloist Peter Webb. Webb stated, “I am very excited to be performing part of the Grieg concerto because it is a lot of fun to play, using the full range of the keyboard, and with spectacular pianist effects.” Classically trained, Webb has become particularly enthusiastic about jazz in recent years and is a founding member of the group Sweet Jazz, performing regularly in the Northfield area. Webb is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Minnesota.
