Northfield Reads invites people to join in a month of conversations with local people of the global majority and with one of the essayists from the book A Good Time for the Truth: Race in Minnesota.  The public is welcome to attend any or all of these discussions.  Reading the book will provide background for the conversations, but is not necessary to enjoy and learn from them.

Conversations:  Thanks to several local organizations, Northfield Reads will be hosting conversations with some of the immigrant groups in the community.

o   Northfield High School ESL Class:  Friday, February 8, 9:30-10:20 am

o   Northfield Works Client Advisory Group:  Monday, February 11, 1:30-3:00 pm, Northfield Community Resource Center (NCRC)

o   Adult Basic Education ESL Class:  Monday, February 18, 7:00-8:00 pm, NCRC

Please come with questions as to how it feels to live in Northfield and an openness to learning about these generous people’s histories, experiences, and perspectives.

Essayists:  Northfield Reads will also be hosting a conversation with Venessa Fuentes, one of the essayists featured in the book.  She will speak about her experiences living in Minnesota as a person of color, her writing, and other stories.

Northfield Reads is a collaboration of Human Rights Commission, Public Library, League of Women Voters, and Carleton Humanities Center.  For more information:
