The Northfield Arts Guild will host February auditions for the remaining shows in their Journey Home Theater Season.  Auditions for The Secret Garden are February 3 – 4, and combined auditions for Mansfield Park and The Odyssey are on February 25 – 26.

Those auditioning for The Secret Garden should prepare a 1-minute ballad and a 1-minute monologue.  Auditions will include a brief and simple movement segment. Rehearsals for The Secret Garden will begin on February 10, 2019. The Secret Garden performances are weekends April 12-28 at the Northfield Arts Guild Theater. This enchanting classic of children’s literature is re-imagined in brilliant musical style by composer Lucy Simon and Marsha Norman, the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of ‘Night Mother.  It is a compelling tale of forgiveness and renewal directed by Lolly Foy, with Music Direction by Kristin Kivell.

Those auditioning for Mansfield Park and The Odyssey should prepare a 1-minute monologue.  Auditions will include a brief and simple movement segment.

Rehearsals for Mansfield Park will begin in early May. Mansfield Park performs weekends June 21-29 at the Northfield Arts Guild Theater.  Not only a love story, Mansfield Park explores important issues such as slavery, the oppressive nature of idealized femininity, women’s education and standing up for one’s principles and desires.  This moral satire is directed by Rachel Haider.

Rehearsals for The Odyssey begin in mid June. The Odyssey performances are weekends August 2-11. This dramatic adaptation begins with a modern young woman who is struggling to understand a translation of Homer’s classic tale. A muse appears, and the young woman becomes the goddess Athena–a tireless advocate for Odysseus in his struggle to get home.  The Odyssey is directed by Marc Robinson.

Those auditioning should register for a time slot at northfieldartsguild.org/theater/auditions or by calling 507-645-8877.

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
