Weekend Entertainment and Events

Click to view PDFThe weekend really starts on Thursday this week.

The Northfield Liquor Store is hosting its first of the season wine tasting at The Grand on Thursday evening starting at 7 p.m.  Sample the special wines highlighted here and order now to be prepared for the holidays.  When you are done wine tasting, choose between Hip Hop Night at the Rueb or take in Anthony Newes at the Tavern.

Saturday, the St. Olaf football team hosts Augsburg, and the rumor is Northfield middle school and high school football players who wear their jerseys get in free.  (Since I've heard the same thing from both of my boys, I'm guessing it is fact and not rumor).  Carleton and St. Olaf have home soccer games on Saturday as well.

Local music talents abounds in the area pubs this weekend, on Friday night Just Us, made up of Jeff Meidinger (guitar) and Sabrina Siebrecht (vocals) play folk-inspired acoustic music at the Tavern. Saturday night Pigs in a Pen, a bluegrass trio, plays the Cow, The Ramblin' River Band, playing Country music entertains at Dawn's Corner Bar, and The Kenster is at the Tavern.  I don't know much about the Kenster, but I do know he is playing again in October, so if you have a review, send it to me.

How about a little classical music to cap the weekend?  Lawrence Archbold gives a faculty recital at 3 p.m. In the Concert Hall at Carleton. Professor Archbold marks the 300th anniversary of the death of Dieterich Buxtehude with a selection of his works, including the Passacaglia in D and the Praeludium in E.  Also on the program are works by J.L. Krebs, C.P.E. Bach, Galuppi and J.S. Bach.
