"Using, Misusing, and Ignoring Political Information" was the subject of the September 24, 2016 meeting of the Northfield-Cannon Falls League of Women Voters. In our media rich culture, St Olaf Political Science Professor Chris Chap's talk is very timely, covering such topics as:  (1) How trust in a source influences the uptake of information, (2) How individuals' prior attitudes influence political learning, (3) How misinformation is received and processed by voters, and (4) How ambiguous messages are understood by voters.

The event was the League’s Fall Kick-off of the League’s election year activities. On October 8, there was a forum for candidates for the State Legislature and for the Northfield School Board to speak to and be questioned by voters. On October 22 at 9:00 a.m. at the Northfield Community Resource Center, Room 103, there will be a similar forum for candidates for the Northfield Mayor and City Council. Videos of these forums will be posted on the League of Women Voters website as they are available.
