There was a youth-led gathering on Bridge Square on Wednesday afternoon to celebrate the International Day of Peace. A multi-age group gathered to hear Northfield’s Poet Laureate Rob Hardy read his poem “Building Blocks”, written for the event. On his website, Rough Draft, Hardy says, the poem is “ . . . dedicated to the young people of our community, who have so much to teach us about making a more peaceful world.”

Musicians and organizers who participated in this gathering were Elijah Leer and Synneva Bratland as well as Jack Cuddy and Gabi Estrada.

The International Day of Peace was brought into being by United Nationals Resolutions in 1981 and 2001. Each year, hundreds of students take part in a student observance.
