The public is invited to attend the Painted Violin Project Open House on Saturday, March 12 from 1-4pm at Hot Spot Music located at 801 Division Street S.

The Painted Violin Project is a fundraiser to benefit the Northfield Public School orchestra program.  This exciting project has transformed 7 old, unplayable string instruments whose melodic lives have come to an end by pairing them with 7 creative, talented local artists who have turned them into beautiful works of art.

The works of art include a cello, transformed by Jen Walcott.  The doors on the front of the cello open to display miniture scenes.  Bach is composing at his workdesk, serenaded by cellists throughout the centuries, playing on their instruments.  Mac Gimse contributed a vibrant sculpture, titled E-x-p-l-o-s-i-o-n.  The bright red front of the violin hints at the inspiration behind his work; the story of the Red Violin.  Tracy Giza created a work titled River of Notes, depicting iconic landmarks of Northfield, connected by the river and infused with music.  Come to the open house to see these, as well as 4 additional fantastic pieces of artwork.

These works of art will open to online bidding at 1pm on Saturday, March 12.  They will be on display in various locations until the final Event on May 20, when online bidding will close at 7pm.  The proceeds from this fundraser will benefit the Northfield Public School orchestra program!
