VIDEO: Northfield School Board Meetings (February 2015)

The Northfield School Board's regular meetings in February were held on Monday, February 9 and Monday, February 23, at 7:00 p.m., in the high school media center.

Monday, February 9

At this meeting, the school board received the preliminary budget forecast for 2015-2016 and beyond. According to the minutes of the meeting: "The financial forecast is based on information the District already knows along with a set of assumptions for the next several years, such as enrollment and the amount of state aid provided by the legislature. While the District is currently financially sound, we want to be proactive in our decision-making so we can make the right choices for our students, staff and community. The financial projections show that the District may need to look at budget adjustments for the 2016-17 school year depending on the level of funding provided by the State in the next biennium. Administration told the Board that there are many decision points that must be reached before the District would implement budget adjustments..."

At this meeting, the school board received a preliminary master facilities planning report from Mark Hayes, lead architect for ATS&R, the firm hired by the district to prepare the report. Mr. Hayes outlined the current condition of district facilities, and made preliminary recommendations for major improvements. The most extensive plan calls for a $107.2 million project that would replace Greenvale Park Elementary with a new elementary school building, repurpose the current Greenvale Park building as an early childhood center, and replace the current high school. These ideas are still conceptual, and the district will continue to refine its plans based on input from the community, staff, and the school board.
