Want to get moving? Learn how tonight

Sure, you been talking about getting in shape, getting out there on the trails or just getting all the way around the block.

Well, the Northfield Area Family YMCA and the Minneapolis Heart Institute and Minnesota Monthy magazine are calling your bluff. They're sponsoring "Women on the Move," an eight-week walk/run training clinic especially for women.

The "fun" starts tonight. The class runs from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursdays through Aug. 3 at the Northfield Middle School, 2200 Division Street South. The cost is just $40 -- less than eight weeks of take-out pizza. To register call 612-863-3839 or just show up with your walking shoes and register.

Cheryl Dasson of the Heart Institute sent us the information about the class, along with this sobering fact: Physical inactivity is a risk factor for heart disease, and yet more than 60 percent of American women do not get enough physical activity or are not physically active at all.

So has Cheryl got your attention? The training clinic will connect you weekly with coaches, give you brief educational programs on a variety of related subjects, and a plug you into a network and support system of women at all levels of activity and training - beginners, advanced or anywhere in between! Now, to show our encouragement, we'll be happy to hear weekly reports from our trainees, and if you give us your walking routes and times, some of us will come out to the curb and cheer you on.
