Northfield Calls for Flood Volunteers

Sandbagging Volunteers

An email distributed by Northfield Shares this afternoon asks for Northfield-area volunteers to help with sandbagging and other flood-preparation activities. It says:

Urgent Volunteer Alert!

We need YOUR help! The City of Northfield has declared a flood emergency and the river continues to rise, with more rain in the forecast. With two colleges in town and the high school down the street, we can normally mobilize hundreds of volunteers in minutes. However, most of those students are not easily available in the summer, so we're relying on citizens like you.

Register now to be a flood volunteer by filling out our online form, or call or text your contact information and availability to Candy Taylor at 507-581-3017.

If you are mobilized, you will be instructed as to where to report. Wear rain gear, work gloves and sturdy shoes that can get wet. Please bring a shovel, a life vest (for people working near the water’s edge) and a full water bottle.

Thank you for your willingness to help!
