Hospital clinic development

Northfield Hospital and Cannon Valley Clinic — Mayo Health System are developing a partnership to expand clinical services in Northfield and the hospital’s extended service area.

Under the model that is planned, Northfield Hospital will own and operate clinics in Northfield, Lonsdale, Farmington and Lakeville. Cannon Valley Clinic-Mayo Health System will provide physician services to these clinics through a contractual agreement with the hospital that is based on an existing agreement through which Cannon Valley Clinic obstetrician/gynecologists currently staff the hospital’s Women’s Health Center.
“We are pleased to be working with Cannon Valley Clinic to develop new services in this growing part of our service area,” said Ken Bank, President and CEO of Northfield Hospital. “This partnership will allow us to expand more quickly into communities in southern Dakota County and to broaden the range of medical services available.”
"Cannon Valley Clinic and Northfield Hospital share a similar mission with both organizations seeking to provide the best care possible to the patients we serve,” said David Beckmann. M.D., CEO of Cannon Valley Clinic. “Our organizations have created a successful partnership regarding obstetrical/gynecological services and we are looking forward to building upon that partnership by providing additional services to the areas served by Northfield Hospital and its clinics,” added Beckmann.
Northfield Hospital expects to break ground this spring on a 14,000 square foot medical clinic in Farmington and be open for patients in the fall of 2006. Construction of a clinic on the hospital campus in Northfield is expected to begin some time this summer and be completed in 2007.
The Farmington clinic, called the FamilyHealth Medical Clinic --- Farmington, will be located in a new commercial development on the south side of Minnesota Highway 50, west of Denmark Avenue called Vermillion River Crossing. It will provide a full range of primary care services for children and adults. Initially, Cannon Valley Clinic will staff the FamilyHealth Medical Clinic --- Farmington with two family practice physicians, a pediatrician and two internal medicine specialists. Selected specialists, such as obstetrician/gynecologists from the Women’s Health Center, orthopedic surgeons from Orthopaedic and Fracture Clinic of Northfield, general surgeons from Surgical Care Consultants, and ear, nose and throat specialists will also see patients in the clinic. As patient volume grows, the clinic will expand to include additional primary care physicians and access to more specialists, such as cardiologists and urologists.
The new Northfield clinic, FamilyHealth Medical Clinic --- Northfield, will be attached to the northwest corner of the hospital and provide space for the Women’s Health Center, and the departments of Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, General Surgery, and ENT.
“With the growing number of families moving to the greater Northfield area, as well as into southern Dakota County, Northfield Hospital is rapidly becoming a regional medical destination,” said Bank.  “A clinic system is necessary to develop the physician referral base that will support the addition of new specialty services to the area.”
Northfield Hospital opened its first primary care clinic in Lonsdale in the fall of 2005. Following the addition of the clinics in Northfield and Farmington, there are plans to build a fourth one in Lakeville, probably some time in 2007.
Cannon Valley Clinic, part of Mayo Health System, provides a full range of general healthcare and specialty services to patients in Faribault and surrounding communities. The clinic provides obstetrics/gynecology services to patients in Faribault as well as in Northfield and New Prague through agreements with hospitals in those communities. Cannon Valley Clinic’s physician staff includes dermatologists, family medicine physicians, a general surgeon, an internal medicine specialist, obstetrician/gynecologists, an ophthalmologist, an optometrist, an, ear, nose and throat specialist, pediatricians, a urologist, a certified nurse midwife, a family nurse practitioner and a physician assistant.  Established relationships with neighboring Mayo Health System organizations bring additional specialty services to Cannon Valley Clinic’s locations.
