Grace Lundberg

Grace Genevieve Lundberg was born July 18th, 1915 in Ironwood, Michigan, the fourth of nine siblings. The family moved to Luck, Wisconsin where she graduated from high school in 1933. Soon after, she moved to Minneapolis where she attended Lutheran Bible Institute and worked as a house-keeper and as a cashier in a grocery store. It was in the grocery store that she met F. W. “Bill” Lundberg. On November 13, 1938, they were married and made their home in Northfield where they raised two children, Beth and Frank. Bill worked in the grocery business for many years and Grace worked in two of Northfield’s former drugstores - Telander’s and Thompton’s. She also worked at Sheldahl where she retired in 1981.

Grace was a long-time member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, played in the Senior Bell Choir, was active in WELCA and Senior fellowship, and enjoyed making quilts with the Luv Ladies. Grace and Bill took several trips over the years, most notably to the Holy Land. They also traveled to Holden Village and made many summer visits to Mt. Carmel with Frank. Much of Grace’s life was devoted to visiting shut-ins and sharing tape-recordings of the Sunday service. She was an active participant in the life of her community and loved to garden and bake.

In 2002, Grace moved into Parkview East. Her last three years were in the Northfield Care Center where she had wonderful care. She enjoyed the Bible Studies, Bingo games and visiting with old and new friends. She valued friends and family and her faith never waivered. “God will take care of me,” she said. “He always has.”

Grace passed on to her heavenly home on Friday, December 28, 2012 at the Care Center. She is survived by children Elizabeth (Jon) Fredlund of Anoka and Frank of Northfield; 2 grandchildren Diane and Brian (Denise); 5 great-grandchildren Casey, Corey, Trystan, Joshua, and Tyler; and many devoted friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant son, and her eight siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at the Northfield Retirement Community Chapel with visitation one hour prior to services. Memorials may be made to Northfield Retirement Community, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or Danish American Archives and Library.
