Northfield Reads 18 invites you to its first event of the year, Making a Difference.

Five local organizations will be telling their story in a way to help people think about how they can make a difference. Small group discussions will focus on a range of topics, from addressing racism to building community to supporting immigrants to creating a locally rooted economy. Events are based on the book "The Revolution Where You Live" and its message that we can reweave relationships in the places we live to provide a foundation for a better world.

This event, the first of four, will take place on Monday, March 5, 7:00-9:00 pm, at St. John's Church, 500 3rd St. W. It will include a Volunteer Fair, where people can learn of a variety of opportunities in town.

Other events include:

-Movie: "Welcome to Shelbyville" about a community's process of reacting and adapting to the arrival of new immigrant groups. Sunday, March 11, 4:00-6:00 pm, Weitz Cinema. Light meal included.

-Book Discussion: Focused discussion of the book. Tuesday, March 13, 7:00-8:00 pm, Content Bookstore.

-Building Bridges: Activities, presentations, discussion about how to build bridges between various groups to create a stronger community. Thursday, March 22, 7:00-9:00 pm, First UCC Church.

Everyone is invited. Reading the book provides a background for the discussion, but is not necessary. Join your neighbors in a conversations about how to make this community even better.
