The Northfield Arts Guild announces auditions for a new show that performs during the weekend of Defeat of Jesse James Days (DJJD) in Northfield, MN.  Modeled after Broadway’s Miscast, the revue-style show is titled CASTastrophe and features musical numbers and monologues by a variety of performers. But there’s a catch: participants will be performing selections from roles they would not otherwise be able to play – perhaps due to age, gender or other characteristic.  For example, the song “Tomorrow” from Annie could be performed by a gentleman in his 50s.  It could happen!

Auditions are Monday, June 25, and Wednesday, June 27, at the Northfield Arts Guild Theater, 411 Third Street West, Northfield.  Solos, duets and groups are all welcome to audition. Participants are asked to prepare a brief proposal for their act outlining their vision for the performance. Full details about audition times and requirements, as well as a link to sign up for an audition slot, can be found on the Guild website at

Rachel Haider, the Guild’s Performing Arts Manager, said, “Community is at the center of all we do at The Guild, so we’re always excited to participate in the DJJD festivities. This year’s new show, CASTastrophe, will be delightful fun for the actors, singers, and audience members.”

Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, September 6, 7 and 8 at 7:30pm.  Actors will only be asked to attend two rehearsals.  This event serves as a fundraiser for the Guild, with general admission tickets at $10.00 each.

CASTastrophewill be directed by Pauline Jennings, a local resident with a history of involvement with Guild projects, both on stage and behind the scenes. When approached with the opportunity to take on this new endeavor, Jennings jumped at the chance. “It’s such a fun idea,” she said. “With a concept like this, it really opens up the show to anyone who wants to perform. And actors get excited about it because they can explore a whole set of roles not normally available to them. I’m really interested to see what people come up with!”

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
