Award winning, bestselling author Beverly Lewis will be touring the Midwest in promotion of her latest release, The Tinderbox, a stand-alone novel set in her beloved Lancaster County and featuring her trademark look at Amish family life.

Thursday, April 11, at 2:00 pm in the library meeting room, Northfield Public Library.

All programs are free and open to the public.

Lewis is not only the leading author of Amish fiction, but also its pioneer: she created the genre with the release of her first adult novel, The Shunning, in 1997. The resulting surges in both reader interest in and publisher output of Amish fiction gained national attention, garnering coverage by Time magazine, the BBC World News Service, the Wall Street Journal, and Nightline, among others.

Author William Kent Krueger will be at the Northfield Middle School Auditorium on Thursday, April 18 at 7:00 pm to discuss his mystery novels and the writing process.  The event is free and open to the public.

The event is sponsored by the Northfield Public Library and is part of the SELCO Minnesota author tour.  Because Krueger has always drawn a large crowd, the library reserved the Middle School auditorium for the event.  No tickets or reservations are needed.

Krueger writes a mystery series set in the north woods of Minnesota.  His protagonist is Cork O'Connor, the former sheriff of Tamarack County and a man of mixed heritage - part Irish and part Ojibwe.  His work has received a number of awards, including the Minnesota Book Award, the Loft-McKnight Fiction Award, the Anthony Award, and more.

The Secret Garden plays at the Northfield Arts Guild Theater weekends April 12-28 with Friday and Saturday performances at 7:30pm and Sunday matinees at 2pm.  This enchanting classic of children’s literature is re imagined in brilliant musical style by composer Lucy Simon and Marsha Norman, the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of ‘Night Mother.

Orphaned in India, young Mary Lennox returns to Yorkshire to live with her embittered, reclusive uncle Archibald and his invalid son Colin. The estate’s many wonders include a magic garden which beckons the children with haunting melodies and the “Dreamers”, spirits from Mary’s past who guide her through her new life, dramatizing The Secret Garden‘s compelling tale of forgiveness and renewal.
