Over 65 fine artists are represented in the Riverfront Fine Arts Festival, an annual juried event of the Northfield Arts Guild since the 1970s. Held during the Defeat of Jesse James Days Celebration, the Riverfront Fine Arts Festival invites patrons to stroll the Cannon River Walkway in historic downtown Northfield.  Start your walk just behind the Northfield Arts Guild - 304 Division Street South, to discover works by wonderful artists from our community and region.  The Riverfront Fine Arts Festival runs 10:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. on both Saturday, September 8 and Sunday, September 9. This festival is free to attend, and is a rain or shine event!

Ferns play an important part of many ecosystems.  They help recolonize land after overbrowsing or other damage and pave the way for more species to follow.  Ferns provide food and shelter for many small creatures, can even filter out some environmental toxins, and provide an indicator of the health of the ecosystem.

A first-hand account of life by a doctor and mother during the Second Intifada ("uprising") is the next book for the Northfielders for Justice in Palestine/Israel book study group. “It’s Easier to Reach Heaven than the End of the Street: A Jerusalem Memoir,” by Dr. Emma Williams, is her story of living in Jerusalem during turmoil that arose between Israelis and Palestinians in the summer of 2000.

The group will hold its first meeting on this book at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018, in the Fireside Room at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 500 Third St. W., Northfield. The group will meet the first Tuesday of every other month. Future meetings are scheduled for Dec. 4, 2018, and Feb. 5, March 4 and April 2, 2019.
