Arlene and Dennis Kjar will host the main fundraiser, a garage sale, for the Northfield Prairie Partners of Wild Ones.  All are encouraged to participate.  Please donate items for sale (no electrical items or baby equipment), price ahead of time and deliver to Arlene’s home on Thursday or early Friday morning.  Popular items include: birdhouses and feeders, clothing, fruiting plants, native flowers and grasses, antiques, collectibles, and heirloom tomatoes.  Contact Arlene if you can help during the sale or set up.  Friday 11 AM – 7 PM, Saturday 8 AM – 6 PM.

Losing the key to the house is a hassle. But having the key and losing the house is a catastrophe.

This is the fate that befell the Palestinian people in the Nakba, which will be commemorated in May. The public is invited to the 1-2:30 p.m., Saturday, May 13, 2017, event at Bridge Square in downtown Northfield. Audience members will be invited to place Palestinian flags on a 4-foot-by-8-foot map of Palestine/Israelas the names of destroyed Palestinian villages are read.

The Parkinson’s Support Group will talk about driving assessments at its meeting on Wednesday, May 24 at Northfield Hospital.


Melissa Thone, an Occupational Therapy student from the University of Minnesota, will provide information on what a driving assessment entails, where assessments are done, and why it is important to have a driving assessment.

On Friday night, June 2, from 10 PM to midnight, join Carleton's resident astronomers to view the moon, stars, planets, and nebulas, using a variety of telescopes.  The event will be cancelled  if cloudy.  Open houses are open to the community and held the first Friday of each month. Times vary.  A schedule is on the web at http://go.carleton.edu/observatory .   If it is cloudy or partly cloudy, a final decision regarding the open house will be posted at that website by one hour before the start time.

 

The next open house after this one will be Friday, July 7.

Not all battles involve bombs. In the battle for justice for Palestine, opponents deploy persuasion and influence to mobilize supporters as foot soldiers of their respective messages. For its ninth annual film festival, Northfielders for Justice in Palestine/Israel will present three films exploring occupation and nonviolent resistance to it.

All shows begin at 7 p.m. on three consecutive Tuesdays beginning June 6, at Bethel Lutheran Church, 1321 North Ave., Northfield, and are free and open to the public. Each evening will end with discussion and a brief question-and-answer period.
