The Northfield Arts Guild is currently accepting enrollment for the July Young Peoples Theater Workshop.  In this three week workshop, students will develop an original script, develop characters, and stage the performances.  The workshop will be conducted at Arcadia School.

Vintage Band Festival is presenting a one-day event on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014. With musical styles ranging from Civil War to Old Time to Jazz and more, 12 diverse bands from around Minnesota will perform outdoor concerts on Northfield’s Bridge Square starting at 9 a.m. and going until 9 p.m.

The event will be held in conjunction with Northfield’s Riverwalk Market Fair in

Bridge Square, where arts, crafts, and fresh foods are available. The event is free and open to the public, but donations to VBF are greatly appreciated.  The next full four-day Vintage Band Festival will be held July 28-31, 2016, following a successful festival in August 2013.

Northfield's twelfth annual Community Youth Fairs are this coming Wednesday, August 13th. These events will take place at Emmaus Baptist Church from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. and at Bridgewater Elementary School from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.


Come learn how your child can get involved in a variety of youth programs offered within your own community! Organizations representing sports, clubs, arts, and more will be present!


School administrators will be handing out free ice cream treats, and prizes await those who participate in the numerous fair games that will be offered!


Hot dogs, chips, and pop will be for sale, with proceeds going to the Community Services scholarship fund.


The Community Youth Fairs are brought to you by Northfield Public Schools Community Services Division, supported in part by the Northfield Healthy Community Initiative, with contributions from Allina Hospitals and Clinics, Northfield Hospital and Clinics, and the United Way.

The Northfield Youth Choirs is excited to be preparing for its 28th season.  We are accepting registrations for new and returning members in all choirs, ages prekindergarten through adults.  Registration is available along with additional information online at www.northfieldyouthchoirs.org.  The priority deadline is Tuesday, Aug. 19th.  Also on Tuesday, Aug. 19th from 3-6 pm is our vocal check-in, at which time we hope to get to know you a little and to answer any questions you might have.

The City of Northfield's Arts and Culture Commission invites the Northfield Community to celebrate Sidewalk Poetry on Thursday, August 21st, at 7 pm on Bridge Square. The nine winning poets in the 2014 Sidewalk Poetry Competition will be honored.  Winners include:  Chris Ellison, Dana Engstrom, Christine Kallman, Anna Moltchanova, Rhea Mehrkens, Orick Peterson, Kaethe Schwehn, Bella Smith, and Lori Stoltz.  The event will be hosted by Arts and Culture Commission Chair Philip Spensley and there will be music by Bonnie and the Clydes.  Special thanks are extended to Northfield Senior Center Volunteers for opening the Popcorn Wagon for the event.  Come and celebrate the arts and culture of Northfield through poetry!

The City of Northfield's Arts and Culture Commission (ACC) invites community members to join them in celebrating this year's Sidewalk Poetry Project on Thursday, August 21st, at 7 pm on Bridge Square.  There will be music by "Bonnie and the Clydes" and the event will be hosted by ACC Chair, Philip Spensley.  Audience members will have the opportunity to meet the poets as they share their winning entries.  Thanks to Senior Center volunteers, the popcorn wagon will be open for business.  The Sidewalk Poetry Project is funded by the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council (SEMAC) through the Arts and Culture Heritage Fund, as appropriated by the MN State Legislature.  Additional support is provided by the Northfield Area Foundation, the Northfield Public Library Friends and Foundation, the Northfield Public Library, and the City of Northfield.  Please join us as we honor the nine 2014 contest winners!

The Northfield Police Department is proud to be assisting The Wives Behind the Badge with a Donation Drive in honor of Fallen Officer Scott Patrick of the Mendota Heights PD.  This is a School Supply Drive for the Children and Community of Officer Scott Patrick.  This drive kicks off on Thursday, August 7th and continues until Saturday, August 23rd.  If people wish to donate, there will be two sites in Rice County.   The bins will be located in the lobbies of the Rice County Sheriff’s Office and the Northfield Police Department (1615 Riverview Dr.)

 

We are asking community members to consider donating school supplies as detailed in the attached flyers.  We are also asking local media and other groups to post the flyers and promote the project.  Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Come celebrate the 10th year of Ballet Folklorico of Northfield.  Spend an afternoon or two sampling the dances of Mexico.

Free for all ages.  All are welcome.

The public is invited to an All Comer Track & Field Meet Thursday, August 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the Northfield Middle School track. The free community event is open to all ages. No prior experience is necessary. Ribbons will be awarded. This event is made possible by local running advocates in collaboration with Northfield Community Services.
