Last season’s Purple Door Youth Theater production of Les Misérables School Edition won Best Theater Production from Southern MN Scene magazine.

Rehearsals for The Wizard of Oz will begin in early January 2017. The Wizard of Oz performances are February 22 - 24 and March 1 - 2 at the Northfield Arts Guild Theater. More information about Purple Door Youth Theater can be found at

Students in grades 2 through 12 from across the region are encouraged to try out for the many roles both on and off stage.  To find a short monologue to prepare, and to sign up for a 30-minute audition slot, call 507-645-8877 or visit  Students interested in working with the technical side of theater (set, props, costumes, lights, sound) are asked to attend the auditions for a technician interview; however, tech candidates need not prepare anything in advance.

Each Purple Door Youth Theater session provides both a full-scale production and theater training; there is a nominal tuition cost.  Direction and instruction is provided by Rachel Haider (Director), and Deb Clark (Technical Director). Through hands-on-theater experiences, students will be involved with every aspect of producing the show.

When a tornado rips through Kansas, Dorothy and her dog, Toto, are whisked away in their house to the magical land of Oz. They follow the Yellow Brick Road toward the Emerald City to meet the Wizard, and en route they meet a Scarecrow who needs a brain, a Tin Man who is missing a heart, and a Cowardly Lion who wants courage. The wizard asks the group to bring him the broom of the Wicked Witch of the West to earn his help.  Students are encouraged to join us in our journey over the rainbow to a magical kingdom where these four unlikely friends discover wisdom, compassion, courage, and the way home.

Purple Door Youth Theater is sponsored by Schieck Orthodontics.  Northfield Arts Guild Education programs are sponsored by Northfield News.
