WINGS Awards More Than $70,000 to Area Agencies

WINGS (Women in Northfield Giving Support) honored its 2016 grant recipients at a celebration last Thursday at the St. Olaf Sun Ballroom.

Over 100 people attended the event to hear about the work of the 27 organizations that received $70,400 in grants from WINGS. The group also presented a $10,000 Dare to Dream award to Growing Up Healthy, which will be used to create a Latino Childcare Providers Network that builds the capacity of Latino childcare providers and offers monthly trainings in Spanish. WINGS focuses its giving in four areas: Basic needs, especially programs that provide housing, increase food and economic stability, and support safe environments for women and youth facing domestic violence; Education, including early learning, out-of-school programs, and adult education; Physical and mental health, especially programs that promote access to healthcare and healthy behaviors; and Entrepreneurship, including technical assistance, networking and mentoring, and access to micro-loans.

Since its founding in 2000, WINGS has given more than $735,000 to organizations that benefit local women and youth.

Grant applications for 2017 will be taken starting in January.
