Third Annual Taste of Northfield Promises to be Bigger and Better than Ever!

Tast of Northfield posterThe Northfield Downtown Development Corporation (NDDC) is proud to present its Third Annual Taste of Northfield, Thursday, June 19th from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., in and around historic Bridge Square, located in the heart of beautiful downtown Northfield. Featuring great music, delicious food and fun for the whole family, this year’s Taste of Northfield promises to be bigger and better than ever.

Along with tasty treats being served up from close to two dozen local food vendors and a beer and wine tasting tent located on the Fourth Street Bridge, the 2008 Taste of Northfield will include a street dance with entertainment provided by one of Northfield’s most beloved musical acts, the Over & Back Band. The event will also feature a performance by the Northfield Community Band and a special bank raid re-enactment by the infamous James-Younger Gang.

New to this year’s Taste of Northfield is a silent and live auction, with proceeds supporting the NDDC. The auctions will feature a wide-range of products and services donated by area retailers, businesses and community members.

“Taste of Northfield has quickly become one of Northfield’s favorite celebrations,” says Mary Rossing, NDDC president. “We invite the entire community to come on downtown and join your friends and neighbors for a fun-filled evening of delicious food and wonderful entertainment.”

Featuring Minnesota Rock/Country Music Hall of Fame fiddler Mike Hildebrandt, the acclaimed Over & Back Band includes keyboard whiz and soulful vocalist Crain Wasner, bassist and vocalist Gordon Oschwald, and percussionist Steve Jennings. The band has garnered national and regional acclaim for their wide variety of fiddle-oriented, high energy, Americana and gypsy style music that combines elements of bluegrass, jazz and swing. Be sure to wear your dancing shoes, because the band’s Taste of Northfield performance will feature an evening of swing dancing, waltzes, polka and contra dance, along with caller Beau Farmer.

The Third Annual Taste of Northfield is sponsored by the NDDC, along with generous support from Carleton College, First National Bank of Northfield, the Northfield News, Northfield Automation Systems, Upper Lakes Foods, College City Beverage, KYMN Radio, Malt-O-Meal, Community Resource Bank, The Contented Cow and Chapati, Taylor Truckline, J.
