St. Olaf music ensembles compete for softball glory

Northfielders who live near the St. Olaf practice football fields (at Lincoln and Greenvale) might have noticed some early morning activity this spring on Tuesdays and Thursdays. What they heard was the sounds of St. Olaf music ensembles continuing the tradition of the "Broken Bat" game that the St. Olaf Band and Orchestra began back in 1974.

"The 'Broken Bat' is the most important thing in the life of the St. Olaf Band ... other than the making of the music," said St. Olaf Band Conductor Timothy Mahr '78 as this year's final softball game between the two ensembles started up. Read more and watch a video story at stolaf.edu ...
