On Monday, January 26th, at 7:00 p.m. St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 418 Sumner St., will be hosting a performance by Pacific Lutheran University's Choir of the West.

The Choir of the West is the "flagship" ensemble of the Department of Music at Pacific Lutheran University.

The choir was founded in 1926, and is considered one of the most outstanding collegiate choral ensembles in the United States. The Choir of the West was the third Lutheran college choir to tour extensively throughout the United States, and has toured to Europe, Scandanavia, Japan and China.

The choir performs several concerts each year, including the annual series of Christmas concerts, campus ministry events, and campus celebratory events. Choir of the West tours annually, and every four years travels abroad, most recently touring with the University Symphony Orchestra to Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary in the summer of 2007.

There have been six conductors in the history of the choir: Joseph Edwards, (1925-1937), Gunnar Malmin (1937-1964), Maurice Skones (1964-1983), Kathryn Lehmann (2001-2006) and Richard Nance (2006-present).
