Northfield Local Food!

For the last year or so, a number of people interested in strengthening our local food system have been meeting to discuss ways to raise awareness of food issues and develop projects to make more local food available. The group, the Northfield Local Food Action Network, maintains an email list for posting food-related information and meets bi-monthly to share ideas and make plans.  Members are farmers, eaters, and people who work with a variety of Northfield organizations and have an interest in food and sustainability.  Meetings are open to everyone and we would love to have lots more people involved!

What have we been up to?  Last summer, some members organized a bike tour of area farms.  Others began laying the groundwork for planting a community orchard.  The upcoming Market Faire is the result of several members’ efforts over many months.  We’re currently discussing many other projects, including a community kitchen, a commercial root cellar, and farmland preservation strategies.  And during the Winter Eat Local Challenge, we are co-sponsoring a LOCAL FOOD POTLUCK with Transition Northfield and Just Food.  We hope you can join us there, Thursday March 4 at 5:30pm in the Just Food Community Room.

If you have an interest in local food issues or want to know more about what the group does, please come to the potluck or contact Susannah Shmurak at
