Northfield Area Bikeable Community Workshop

Bicycling is an American pastime. But for Minnesota cities, bicycling increasingly means economic development and community health!   Across out state -Minnesota schools, businesses, and city governments are taking steps to make their communities more bike friendly - as a proven means of improving the overall health and vitality of their communities.

What can we do to make Northfield a safer and more pleasant place to bike?

This Thursday, June 12, 2014 from 8:30 am - 3:00pm

The City of Northfield

Northfield Area Chamber of Commerce

Northfield Downtown Development Corporation (NDDC) and

Healthy Rice County SHIP

are teaming up to co-sponsor

the Northfield Area Bikeable Community Workshop

a free educational workshop for Northfield Area businesses, planners, policy makers and institutional representatives - as well as local bike-interested residents who are interested in helping to develop Northfield's potential as a bikeable community.

Speakers from the Minnesota Departments of Transportation and Health, and the Bicycle Alliance of Minnesota will cover

  1. best infrastructure practices for private and public property owners
  2. a review of bike safety principles and practices (easy as riding a bike?), and
  3. ideas for promoting bicycling in schools and businesses for workplace wellness

The workshop will include a leisurely 4- 5 mile bike ride around Northfield, as a way to review bike safety rules, AND tour Northfield' current bike amenities as well as places in the community that will benefit from infrastructure improvements (e.g. the 246 and Jefferson Road Intersection).

The Workshop will conclude with a (2:30 - 3:00pm) community discussion of next steps needed to make Northfield a more Bikeable Community.

We hope you can join us!
