Deadline for 2015 Ruth Hansen Palestine Travel Scholarship is February First!

Jenny Hartley reminds readers that Northfielders for Justice in Palestine/Israel is accepting applications from area residents for its 2015 Ruth Hansen Palestine Travel Scholarship. Applications are being accepted through Feb. 1, 2015.

In the belief that the best way to understand the realities of the conflict in Palestine/Israel is to visit the place itself, NJP established the Ruth Hansen Palestine Travel Scholarship in 2012. It did so in honor of one of its founding and most committed members, long-time Northfield resident Ruth Hansen, in recognition of her decades of advocacy for peace and justice in the Middle East.

This is the second time NJP will award the scholarship. The first recipients, in 2013, were Soraya Dangor and Graison Chapman.

The scholarship will pay for the recipient(s) to enroll in a structured and focused program in the Holy Land, and will cover all ground costs for the duration of the program. Applicants will cover their own airfare to and from Palestine/Israel. The range, length and dates of available programs is wide, and applicants can choose the one that best suits their particular interests and schedule. NJP will supply full information about the programs, in addition to providing advice on every aspect of travel to Palestine/Israel.

The successful candidates will be residents of Northfield or the immediate area, and will commit to discuss and debrief with NJP following the trip. NJP members gratefully acknowledge the generosity of the community for donations to make this scholarship possible.

Northfielders for Justice in Palestine/Israel is a local group whose aim is to educate and inform Northfield and the surrounding area about the Palestine/Israel conflict, and to advocate for peace and justice for all the involved parties.
