The League of Women Voters Invites you to Meet the Primary Candidates for Northfield's City Council

The primary election will be held August 10th this year -- which is right around the corner.  If you have not decided which City Council candidates to vote for,  the League of Women Voters is sponsoring a Primary Candidates Forum.  The public is invited to attend the forum which will be held Thursday, July 29th at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at Northfield City Hall, 801 Washington Street.

There are two City Council positions on the primary ballot and there are three candidates running for each position.  The candidates running for the At Large seat are Norman Butler, Steve Engler and Rhonda Pownell.  The candidates running for the Fourth Ward seat are Jon Denison, Patrick Ganey and Dale B. Gehring.

The forum will provide a chance for citizens of Northfield to ask the candidates questions about their positions on the many issues facing Northfield.  If you have questions for the candidates but will not be able to attend the forum, you may send questions to League of Women Voters member Barbara Crouter at and the questions will be asked on your behalf.  The forum will be videotaped and shown on NTV several times before the primary election on August 10th.

Since the Prmary Election will be held early this year many people will still be on vacation or unable to vote in person.  Eligible voters will be able to vote with absentee ballots from July 25th through August 9th at Northfield City Hall, 801 Washington Street.  For further information on absentee voting, check out the City of Northfield web site.

Please take advantage of this opportunity to meet the candidates and share your thoughts and feelings about the issues that are important to you.
