Fred Somers, artist, to teach workshop at Senior Center

"Bluebird Day," painting by Fred Somers

The painting shown here was created last week by Fred Somers in a Plein Air (painting on location, outdoors) festival in Red Wing.  The festival concluded with an exhibit of the work created during the week-long festival.  His painting of this cemetery, which he said was "full of bluebirds," won "Best in Show."   Somers will be teaching  a special two-day Plein Air workshop through the Northfield Senior Center, as the result of a SEMAC grant supporting arts education at the Center.  The workshop will be held on July 11 and 12, 9am – 3:30pm and is open to ANY adult (age 18 and up), and all skill levels are welcome.  Somers will adjust his instruction depending on the background of the students.  The cost of this two-day workshop is $75 (members) or $84 (non-members). To register or for more information, call the NSC, 664-3700.  Registration deadline is July 7.

The workshop to be held in Northfield in July will include one day painting inside, and one day painting outside in a garden. Students may chose to work in oil, acrylics or pastels.  For all levels of experience.
