FirstUnited Church of Christ in Northfield will resume evening services Sunday, Oct. 1, at 5 p.m., with Hans Peterson, an accomplished church musician, leading the music for this service. First UCC is excited to have Peterson joining their staff.

Hans comes to First UCC with a rich background in Progressive Christian church music in a folk style.  Hans has toured with a musical group to West Africa, worked as a youth director/worship leader, and served homeless men in a Catholic Worker House. Hans' passion for the church as a welcoming place led him to United Seminary in the Twin Cities where he completed a masters in theology and arts. As a singer/songwriter he ventures out solo and with the Dakota Road band, playing piano and acoustic guitar.

Dakota Roadhas become known nationally for their stirring original music and playful performance style. Their songs of struggle and hope connect with people of all ages and walks of life. Individually and as a band Dakota Road has released over twenty recordings with many of their songs being sung all across the U.S. & beyond.  You can hear some of Hans’ music at www.hanspetersonmusic.comor www.dakotaroadmusic.com.

The Rev. Todd Smith Lippert, Senior Minister at First UCC, says First UCC is adding one of the “prominent singer songwriters of the progressive church to the First UCC staff.”

“Hans is a prolific songwriter.  He writes music that touches the heart while articulating the best of an inclusive, grace-filled, justice-loving Christian faith. He is a talented musician and a person of deep faith.  I’ve been sharing his music with churches I’ve served, and I’m excited to have the chance to work with him going forward."

First UCC’s Sunday evening service, called The Welcome Table, begins at 5 p.m. each Sunday evening. It is designed to provide an alternative worship time and setting for those who find it difficult to attend worship on Sunday mornings. The service is also a good fit for all ages.
