With the presidential candidates dominating the headlines, the political action committees (PACs) that lobby them are often forgotten. Author Grant F. Smith will discuss one of the most influential of these, the Israel lobby, 7-9 p.m., Nov. 12, 2016, Tomson Hall 280, St. Olaf College. Smith's presentation will address the origin, growth and influence of the lobby on U.S. Middle East policy.

Smith, a native Minnesotan, founded the Institute for Research: Middle Eastern Policy (IRmep) in Washington, D.C., in 2002 and has written eight books about the Israel lobby.

The program is the joint effort of St. Olaf's Department of Sociology and Anthropology, the St. Olaf Middle East Studies program and Northfielders for Justice in Palestine/Israel.
