Eva Victoria James was born February 27, 1918, in Rose Hill, Illinois, to Ira and Mina (Gray) Shull. She was raised in southeast Illinois and graduated from Champaign High School in 1936. She married Gerald A. James on March 3, 1939, at Pine Village, Indiana. After marriage they lived in various places while Gerald served in the military. Following his discharge they made their home in Urbana and Eva worked as a hairdresser and also taught cosmetology at Champaign Beauty School. Gerald passed

away on February 3, 1976. Eva retired in 1981, and in June of that year moved to Lonsdale, Minnesota, to be near her daughter.

Sylvia Johnson

Sylvia Irene Johnson was born August 21, 1921, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Simon and Ida (Moen) Pederson. She was raised in South Minneapolis and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1939. She married Merrill Johnson on June 20, 1940, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Merrill was drafted into WWII in 1943 and their daughter Barbara was born that November. Following his discharge in 1945, they made their home in Minneapolis. Sylvia worked for Sears, Roebuck from 1968 to 1974. In 1974, Sylvia and Merrill moved to Texas. They returned in 1989 to be near their daughter. Merrill passed away on December 13, 2004.

Our beloved wife, sister, and aunt, Juta Millert, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 12, 2009 at the Three Links Care Center in Northfield, MN.

Rev. Ralph F. Strand

Ralph Frederick Strand was born May 11, 1927, in Escalon, California. The oldest child of Esmer and Mabel Strand, he grew up on the family farm with brother Donald and sister Carol, raising peaches, apricots, almonds and walnuts. He was baptized and confirmed at Saron Lutheran Church in Escalon.

After graduating high school in 1945, Ralph served in the U.S. Marine Corps. At the University of California-Davis he studied to be a vocational agriculture instructor and learned to fly small aircraft. But after earning his degree, he heard another calling.

Ralph Strand, age 82 of Minneapolis, formerly of Northfield, passed away Thursday afternoon, September 10, 2009, at Augustana Health Care Center in Minneapolis.

Funeral services will be 11AM Saturday, September 19, 2009, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Northfield with Revs. Joseph Crippen and Mark Johnson officiating. Visitation one hour prior to the service and a reception to follow. Visitation will be 6-8PM Friday, September 18, 2009, at University Lutheran Church of Hope, 601 - 13th St. SE, Minneapolis.

Dolores Mae White was born July 11, 1933, in Iron River, Michigan, to George and Lillian (Farrar) Armstrong. At the age of 8 moved with her family to Dundas where she was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church. She attended school in Dundas and Northfield and after her education worked at the Northfield Bakery. She married Donald H. White on November 19, 1950, at the parsonage of the Dundas United Methodist Church. After marriage they have always made their home in the Northfield area.

Becky Narveson Johnson, age 82 of Northfield, passed away Tuesday morning, September 1, 2009, at the Northfield Care Center.

Dolores White funeral notice

Dolores White, age 76 of Northfield, passed away Sunday morning, August 30, 2009, at the Northfield Care Center.

Services will be 11AM Thursday, September 10, 2009, at Main Street Moravian Church. Interment will be in Greenvale Cemetery at Castle Rock.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Donald; 4 children and their spouses: Linda and Gary Bickel of Northfield, Leonard and Jane of Gult, California, Larry and Christine of Ironton, Lou and Bill Brocht of Northfield; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; her sister, Evelyn and husband Albert Remme of Dennison; and twin brothers and their wives: Lee and Betty Armstrong of Northfield, Leonard (Marie) Armstrong of Owatonna.

Arrangements are with the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home.

Raymond J. Larson

Raymond Juestine Larson was born July 26, 1920, in Lakeville, Minnesota, to Joseph and Luella (Larson) Larson. He was raised on the family farm in New Market Township and baptized and confirmed at West Christiania Lutheran Church. Ray married Annette Elvestad on June 27, 1942, in Farmington. After marriage, Ray served in the US Army during WWII from 1942-1945. Following his discharge, they farmed in New Market Township until purchasing a farm in Northfield Township in 1955. Along with farming, Ray worked as a carpenter for Vanselus Construction and later at Carleton College. In 1993, he retired and they moved to Northfield. In retirement, Ray spent many years working as groundskeeper at the Northfield Cemetery. Annette passed away on May 23, 1997. Ray was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He was an excellent carpenter, mechanic, and general handyman and was always willing to spend his time and talents helping his kids and others.
