William Walberg

William Milo Walberg was born on September 3, 1959 in Alexandria, MN, the youngest child of George and Betty (Sliper) Walberg. He was raised in Nelson, MN on his parent’s dairy farm where he helped his family with the milking, farming and other chores throughout his childhood. Following school he moved to Wyoming and later Texas working in construction.
He moved back to Minnesota to attend Bemidji State College where he graduated in 1989 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Applied Psychology. He then began his career in chemical dependency in the Farmington and Hastings area, later to become the Executive Director of Lifestyle Counseling Services in Prior Lake. Bill was a chemical dependency counselor for 23 years before he retired in 2012. At the time of Bill’s death he had reached over 25 years of sobriety, over which time he shared his experience, strength and hope with many others.
On August 28,1993 he was united in marriage to Jeannette Shaver in Rosemount and they soon moved to their present horse farm, Serenity Acres, near Elko to pursue their common interest in horses and raise their three children Chris Walberg (Elko), Kelly Anderson (Eden Prairie), and Emily Walberg (St. Paul). In Elko they bred and raised quarter horses for reining competitions and both were active members along with their two daughters, of the North Central Reining Horse Association. On his current horse, 2Bells, Bill earned a spot in the NRHA Affiliate final show in Oklahoma City, which was a great accomplishment to him. He was an avid hunter of turkey, deer, and elk enjoying many seasons shared with family. Bill was also a truly devoted Vikings and NASCAR fan, where enjoying game and race time with his family was a highlight each week.
Bill passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at the Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, with loving family at his side. Bill is survived by his wife J Walberg of Elko; son Chris Walberg of Elko; daughters Kelly Anderson of Eden Prairie, Emily Walberg of St. Paul; brother Wally (Jean) Walberg of Crosby; sisters Kathy Randall of Osakis, Joyce Jern of Alexandria, and Jean (Al) Brown of Sauk Rapids.
