Wallace Garlough


Wallace (Wally) Garlough, age 87, formerly of Bloomington, passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at the Lodge of Natchez in Elko. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Wednesday, March 21st at the Bierman Funeral Home in Northfield with visitation 1 hour prior to the services. Burial 3:30 pm Wednesday at the Itasca Cemetery in Grand Rapids.

Wallace Carton Garlough was born April 28, 1924 in Calumet, MN, the oldest of four sons born to Wallace and Leona (Hauck) Garlough. He was raised in Calumet and graduated from Greenway High School. He then attended Itasca State Junior College where he played on their football team. In 1942 he enlisted in the Navy and served during WWII.

In 1946 he was united in marriage to Faye Pearl Peterson while attending the University of Minnesota where he graduated with a degree in Zoology. He was then recalled into the Navy at the start of the Korean Conflict and was discharged in 1950. They then made their home in Bloomington where Wally was a sales representative for Lederle Pharmaceutics for a number of years. He then sold real estate for a time before taking a position with the State of Minnesota as an inspector of public school kitchens and lunch programs.

Following retirement Wally and Faye purchased a RV and traveled through out the U.S. and wintered in Florida for the next 10 years. In 1993 they moved to Tahlequah, OK to be near their daughter Kathy and in 1998 moved to Norman, OK where they lived until 2008 and then moved back to Minnesota.

Wally was a longtime active member of the Bloomington Masonic Lodge #240 and Norman Masonic Lodge. He was an avid fisherman and loved to raise dogs. In his younger years he liked hunting and in retirement took up golf. He enjoyed reading, especially westerns, and also religious and spiritual books. He was a family person and loved the time spent with his children and grandchildren.

Wallace is survived by his children Greg (Dawn) Garlough of Bloomington, Dr. Katherine Garlough of Tahlequah, OK, Beth Nordstrom of Tampa, FL and Jeff (Candi) Garlough of Eagan; 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and brother Gary (Joan) Garlough of Maple Grove. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Faye; and brothers Vince and John Garlough.
