Lawrence Korda D.D.S.

Lawrence L. Korda, 90 died peacefully on Tuesday February 28, 2012 at The Northfield Retirement Center, Northfield, Minnesota.

Larry was born June 10, 1921 to John and Anna (Brudnak) Korda, in Duluth, Minnesota. He graduated from Denfeld High School in 1939, Duluth Junior College and the University of Minnesota Dental School in 1944. Following graduation he served in the United States Navy until his honorable discharge in December 1946.

He married Annabelle Erickson on October 3, 1945 in Chisholm, Minnesota. Following his military service, they settled in Winona where Larry practiced dentistry until his retirement in 1991.They moved from Winona in 2004 and eventually to Northfield in 2007. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church for 65 years, a life member of the Minnesota Dental Association, Psi Omega, and a member of Osman Shrine Temple and Winona Lodge No 18.

Larry was very involved in community activities which included 15 years of service on the Winona Board of Education ISD #861, Southeast District Dental Society and Minnesota Dental Association Board of Trustees. In 1961 when Central United Methodist Church burned, Larry chaired the Board of Trustees and “supervised” the rebuilding of the church from his office across the street. In his spare time he was an avid duck and goose hunter and an accomplished golfer with a single digit handicap. He also enjoyed gardening and classical music.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Annabelle; three daughters, Carol Korda (Bruce Dalgaard) of Northfield, MN, Janet(Sam) Boulis of Lake Oswego, OR, Susan (Arne) Bergland of Puyallup, WA; six grandchildren, Kristen, Anthony, David and Paul Boulis and Grete and Ingrid Bergland and a sister, Fran Meneley of Anoka, MN. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Joy Korda Schaefer (Mark), Grand Rapids, MI in 1985 and by his brothers, Andrew, Henry, Louis, Edward, and Raymond.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday March 10, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Northfield Retirement Center Chapel, Northfield, MN. Visitation at 1:00 p.m. will precede the service. Later this spring, another Memorial Service will be held in Winona with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials are preferred to Northfield Retirement Center, Northfield, MN Central United Methodist Church, Winona, MN or donor’s choice.
