I assume your planning commission is making sure that this construction will not preclude use of Jefferson Parkway as a cross-town collector or (even worse) arterial (should the Jefferson extension across the Cannon ever re-surface). There was some consternation when I raised this sort of an issue in Dundas regarding the proposed trailhead in the southeast corner of the Hester-Railway intersection (http://nfld.us/blogs/morlan/archives/001259.html). My point was why build something nice where your future plans call for something else, or at least, if you do, put the expensive stuff out of the harm's way.

are there any plans to add a basketball court to this facility. it would be a very welcome addition to the park

I wonder what it would cost to make this a net-zero energy building?
I would love to see some solar PV panels on the roof with a solar hot water heater.

Anyone willing to fund such an addition?

To answer your question, this building would be on the south, or POND side of the playground. It would be quite a bit of distance from the road. Being far from the road, my concern would be that it would be lighted. It is VERY dark in this area at night, because there is no lighting anywhere near the soccer fields. It would also call for additional police patrols, as it could become a late night hangout. Unlike Sechler Park, which has the ability to be locked down at night, the soccer fields have no gate to close them up at 10 PM. This might want to be considered for addition next year.

What would the cost of making it a net zero building? Solar water heater and solar lights would be interesting.

What is REALLY unfortunate about this site though, is the lack of parking, and the fact that every single soccer mom and dad bring their vehicles to practice. It

John,

Thise are some insightful comments! I totally hear you on the Prarie/Maple speeding issues.

So, anyone know how the city expects to pay for this ~$125,000 shelter? I see the words "fundraising", "donated", and "cost" in the same document. Which is it?

Oh yeah, while they plan for this shelter in the beautiful park, the "park" in my neighborhoood remains empty and untouched.

Blah, I had referenced an article (via URL), and it didn't work (not the first time).

Here's the link;

It's a beautiful idea to add to this park. I really appreciate the work that the volunteer group is putting into this project.
