Kenneth Emery
Kenneth Emery, age 77 of Northfield, passed away Monday, March 1, 2010 at the Three Links Care Center in Northfield. Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Friday, March 5th at the Stanton United Methodist Church with burial at the Stanton Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8:00 pm at the Bierman Funeral Home in Northfield and at the Church on Friday one hour prior to Services.
Kenneth E. Emery, son of Earl and Eva (Ruff) Emery, was born August 26, 1932 on the family farm in Stanton, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at the Stanton United Methodist Church where he was a lifelong member. Ken began his education at the Stanton country school and then Randolph High School, graduating in 1951. For the next few years he farmed with his father. On February 14, 1953 he was united in marriage to LaVon Corrine Lee.
In 1955 they moved to their own farm in Northfield Township where Ken and LaVon farmed and raised their 5 daughters. Along with his daughters as helpers, Ken dairy farmed until 1987 when he sold the dairy herd. During this time he also worked for the A.S.C.S. office measuring acreage in many farm fields in the local area. Ken worked off the farm in maintenance for the Northfield High School from 1969-72, the Northfield Hospital from 1991-2000, and then the Allina Clinic until 2002 when he retired.
In his free time Ken liked gardening and mowing the lawn, riding his snowmobile, ballroom dancing, and motor coach vacation tours. When the girls were young and in 4-H he enjoyed helping then with their projects and going to the Rice County Fair and continued helping his grandchildren in their 4-H projects.
Kenneth Emery is survived by his wife of 57 years LaVon; daughters Debbie (Mike) Fischbach of Northfield, Darlene (Mike) Witt of Northfield, Cindy (Ralph) Neil of Dennison, Lori (Brian) Malecha of Northfield; Judy Emery (Doug Kaufman) of Copper City, Michigan; brother Willard (Peggy) Emery of Stanton; sister Julia Emery of Stanton; sister-in-law Jan Emery of Northfield; 10 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Howard.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Bierman Funeral Home of Northfield.
