Mary Margaret Steinhoff

She’s free. On Wednesday, February 24, 2010, after battling multiple medical conditions and complications, Mary Margaret Steinhoff, left her family, friends and acquaintances much richer for knowing and loving her. Beloved wife “Pug” of William (Bill) Steinhoff, extraordinary mother of Gretchen Dorn and Katrina Fair, loving grandma of Spencer Dorn, daughter of Wilma and Rudolf Wodarczek (Wheeling, WV, deceased), aunt of Vicki Woodgeard Shroyer (Lawrenceburg, IN) and Tom Woodgeard (Lancaster, Ohio), and cousin of David Bayha (Wheeling, WV) and Paul Bayha (St. Clairesville, OH), Mary Margaret thoroughly enjoyed her beautiful home and surrounding natural land south of Northfield, Minnesota.

Named “Athena Queen” in 1949 and a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority at Ohio University, Mary Margaret pursued a bachelor’s degree in education. As a first grade teacher for 32 years, she creatively taught “her kids” in Columbus Public Schools, North Canton Public Schools, and Westerville City School districts of Ohio. After she retired, she and Bill relocated to Northfield, Minnesota to be close to their daughters and grandson and worked together to develop Bur Oak Springs, their land, into a special retreat from which to enjoy nature. As an avid flower gardener, she served as president to the Northfield Garden Club and led the development of “Flowers Along Division Street”- currently enjoyed by Northfield citizens.

A remembrance gathering of family, friends and acquaintances will be held at the family home on Sunday, March 14th from 1:00 to 4:00 .m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Northfield Garden Club would be appreciated.

Funeral arrangements by the Bierman Funeral Home of Northfield.
