Beverly Jean Blaness
Beverly Blaness, age 84 of Northfield, passed away Sunday, February 7, 2010 at the Three Links Care Center in Northfield. Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Saturday, February 13th at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Northfield with burial at the Northfield Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday 1 hour prior to Services at the Church.
Beverly Jean Blaness was born March 3, 1925 in Northfield, daughter of Walter and Ella (Berg) Norbeck, She was raised in Northfield, baptized and confirmed at the Northfield Methodist Church, and attended Northfield Schools graduating in 1943. She began working in town at various jobs eventually as a secretary at the W.T. Red Nelson Insurance Agency.
On May 18, 1952 she was united in marriage to Bernard Blaness and they made their home in Northfield. Bev stayed home for a few years before returning to work again at the Red Nelson Agency where she continued for 40 years as the office manager. Her last 5 working years was with the Frank Gates Insurance Agency before retirement in 1989.
Beverly was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star and past Worthy Matron and also belonged to the Cannon Valley Lions Club. As a member of St. John’s she served on the Finance Board for a number of years. In retirement she and Benny loved being snowbirds in Arizona for 15 years and also traveled to Tahiti, Hawaii, Norway and England and cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean.
Bev’s hands were never still and her creative talents gave many in her family beautiful quilts, pillows, and clothing with fancy needlework. In Arizona where they attended Our Savior’s Lutheran Church she was chairman of their annual Mission’s Bazaar and Craft Sale for many years.
Beverly is survived by her husband of 57 years Benny; “adoptive” daughter Sally (Ken) Rud of Orono; and “adoptive” grandchildren Leah (Benny) Richardson and Molly (Darren) Papstein. Memorials preferred to St. John’s Lutheran Church or the donor’s choice.
