Juta Maria Millert
Our beloved wife, sister, and aunt, Juta Millert, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 12, 2009 at the Three Links Care Center in Northfield, MN.
Juta was the eldest child of Agnes and August Rae born on July 11, 1915 in Ungurpils, Latvia where her father worked as a forester on the estate of a German landlord. With the collapse of the Russian Empire in WWI, the family returned to their native and newly independent country of Estonia where her father became a Forestry Superintendent in the Laiksaare district. Their parents sent Juta and her siblings to Pärnu, Estonia for demanding primary and secondary education.
In the summer of 1944, to escape the imminent conquest of Estonia by the Soviet Union, Juta and her parents fled to Germany where she lived as a Displaced Person until 1949 when she and her mother emigrated to the United States.
Juta Rae married Dr. Olaf W Millert on April 20, 1963, and she graduated magna cum-laude from St. Olaf College in 1965. Until her retirement in 1986, Juta worked at St Olaf providing administrative support to the German Department. Juta was gifted in many languages. She pursued lifelong loves of gardening, cooking, and ballroom dance. She was preceded in death by her sister Helgi Lind. She is survived by her husband Olaf Millert of Northfield and her brother Tarmo Rae of Toronto, Canada as well as by several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St Olaf College, The Olaf and Juta Millert Scholarship Endowment.
Services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 3, 2009, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Northfield. A reception will follow. Interment will be in Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis.

Toonela teele on kutsutud meile nii armas Juta Millert. 12. septembril 2009-ndal aastal jätsime igavesti jumalaga kalli abikaasa, õe ja tädiga, kelle viimaseks koduks oli Three Links Care Center Northfieldi linnas Minnesota osariigis Ameerika Ühendriikides.
Juta oli Agnes ja August Rae kõige vanem laps, sündinud 11.juulil 1915-ndal aastal Lätis Ungurpilsi külas, kus tema isa töötas metsnikuna saksa mõisniku maavalduses. Pärast Tsaari Venemaa kokkuvarisemist Esimeses Maailmasõjas pöördus perekond tagasi värskelt iseseisvuse saavutanud Eesti Vabariiki, kus Juta isa hakkas tööle Laiksaare valla metsaülemana. Juta haridustee sai alguse Pärnus, kuhu kõik lapsed saadeti alg- ja keskharidust omandama.
1944-nda aasta suvel oli Juta koos perega sunnitud lahkuma Nõukogude okupatsiooni ohvriks langenud Eesti Vabariigist ning elama põgenikelaagris Saksamaal kuni 1949-nda aastani, mil Juta perekond emigreerus Ameerika Ühendriikidesse.
Juta Rae abiellus doktor Olaf W. Millertiga 1963-ndal aastal ja lõpetas St.Olaf Ülikooli magna cum-laude kraadiga 1965-ndal aastal. Juta töötas St.Olaf Ülikooli Saksa keele osakonnas kuni pensionile jäämiseni 1986-ndal aastal. Jutal oli andekas võõrkeeltes, samuti harrastas ta aindust, kokakunsti ja peotantsu. Mõned aastad tagasi saatis Juta viimsele teekonnale õe Helgi Lind. Täna jäävad Jutat leinama tema abikaasa Olaf Millert Northfieldis ja vend Tarmo Rae Torontos Kanadas. Samuti õe- ja vennalapsed peredega Ameerika Ühendriikides, Kanadas ja Austraalias.
Lillede asemel võib teha annetuse perekonna stipendiumi fondi: St. Olaf College, The Olaf and Juta Millert Scholarship Endowment.
