Glenn E. Nelson
Glenn Edward Nelson was born January 31, 1918, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, to Arthur and Emily (Hagen) Nelson. He graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1936 and received his B.A. from St. Olaf College in 1940. He attended Marquette Medical School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He married Elaine Loftness on September 6, 1942 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Fairfax, Minnesota. In 1943 he received his Medical Degree and interned at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth. In May 1944 he joined the US Navy and served in the Pacific aboard the USS Bates, and during that time he was awarded the Silver Star for distinguished service and valor. Following his discharge he served as house doctor at Grandview Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. In 1946, Glenn and Elaine moved to Fairfax where he established his medical practice. In 1968, they moved to Redwood Falls to join the Cairns Medical Clinic (which became the Redwood Medical Group). He practiced in Redwood Falls until 1983, when he and Elaine moved to the family lake home on Green Lake in Spicer. He continued to practice part time at the New London Clinic and the Same-Day Surgery Center in Willmar until retiring in 1987. In 2006 they moved to Millstream Commons in Northfield.
Glenn devoted himself wholeheartedly to all of his endeavors, through all aspects of his life. His pride was never channeled inward, but was always fully directed to his family. He found great pleasure in his family and friends; helping others gave him joy and purpose in life. Glenn was dedicated to his patients and his profession and was a much beloved and admired family doctor. Glenn was an avid golfer with an abiding love for the game; he also enjoyed countless fishing trips with his family and friends. His Christian faith provided the foundation for the life he led.

Dr. Nelson
I am sorry for your family's loss. Dr. Nelson stitched me up a couple of times when I was a little kid at the Redwood Falls Hospital and as the universe works, my dad and I were just talking about him on Wednesday and what a nice doctor he was to me. I guess I was a bit of a handful when I was getting my stitches and my dad and Dr. Nelson discussed this and Dr. Nelson had a few laughs about it. Later that afternoon my dad called with the news that Dr. Nelson passed away. My prayers and thoughts are with your family at this time.

Dr. Glenn Nelson
My deepest sympathies to the Nelson families.
I have many fond memories of Doc Nelson during the mid-1960's when I lived in Fairfax. Doc was an avid sports fan and followed the high school teams to every game, he was our team doctor before there were team doctors.
Twice, in 1965, he drove me to the Sleepy Eye hospital for emergency surgery, the second time saving my life.
My heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Nelson family.

As a young girl, I remember
As a young girl, I remember Dr. Nelson's kindness and ever-twinkling eyes when I would come to the clinic. As an adult, I got to know both Glenn and Elaine better when they would come out to Indian Palms every winter (just like my parents did) to escape MN's winter. When my mother, Jeanne Schneider, became a widow, she continued to go out to Indian Palms by herself, but she knew the Nelsons would be there, so she didn't feel so alone. Both Glenn and Elaine were so good to my Mom and included her in many of their plans and won a place in my heart forever! The Nelsons saw my children grow up as we would go to Indian Palms for visits every winter, and it became a highlight of my visits to be able to spend some time with Glenn & Elaine. (My kids still remember and talk about "Goodnight Elaine"!)
My deepest sympathies to Elaine and all the Nelson families who will miss this dear, dear man. Being Christians, we can be comforted knowing that Glenn is now in heaven with our Heavenly Father and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and that we will see Glenn again!
I sure wish I could be at Glenn's services but will be with you all in spirit...
With love, Suzy Winston
