Here are just some of the happenings going on this weekend - pick up a Guide to get all the events for the entire month of April! April 10-12

Thursday, This evening there's a host of events that will stimulate your mind! Start off with ChARTdonnay Thursday at ArtOnWater Gallery from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sip wine while viewing and purchasing art by local talent, Jill Enestvedt. Her works are inspired by the patchwork nature of quilts ... just gorgeous! For the literary kind, be sure to take in the author event at 5 p.m. at Carleton's Gould Library Anthenaeum featuring the book by Robert and Carol Curoe, "Are There Closets in Heaven?" – a story of the relationship between a Catholic father and his lesbian daughter. At 7 p.m., Monkey See Monkey Read is hosting an author event at 7 p.m. Tom Swift, author of "Chief Bender's Burden: The Silent Struggle of a Baseball Star," will read from his newly-released book and sign copies. Afterwards, be sure to catch Ian Alexy at The Tavern Lounge!

Friday, Jane Hamilton will speak at Carleton's Skinner Memorial Chapel at 11 a.m. Hamilton is an award-winning novelist and is author of the international bestseller, "A Map of the World." Her speech is called, "Slouching Toward Television: A Novelist's Foray into the Realm of TV." Young thespians from Northfield's Middle School will offer the production, "Lockwood's Brightest Stars," at the Northfield Middle School Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. See page 5 of the Guide for more details ... and be sure to support this young group of actors! The NAG's production, Pajama Game, begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Northfield Arts Guild Theater. Also, Gary Heil entertains the crowd at The Contented Cow and Kevin Stanke will perform at The Tavern Lounge.

Saturday, It's Healthy Kids Day!!! Take the kiddies to the Northfield Middle School from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for indoor and outdoor fun ... it's a great way to find the summer opportunities that will keep your little ones busy! The Northfield New Home Tour is also on tap for Saturday and Sunday from 12 to 5 p.m. View Northfield's "best new homes!" Grab a map and schedule of events at By All Means Graphics or tucked inside the April issue of the Guide. It may not seem like spring outside, but it is time for the Veselica Spring Concert starting at 7:30 p.m. at St. Olaf's Dittmann Center. This is an international dance concert that is sure to take your mind off the weather! Walking Avalon entertains with blues and jazz at The Contented Cow and the ever-popular Bonnie and the Clydes will take you back at The Tavern Lounge. Enjoy! Looking for something to do? Sunday is not chopped liver, either.

In fact it is Roast Pig to welcome the Czech Printmakers in their exhibit which opens Sunday at 3pm in the ArtOrg Gallery.

Printmakers Jan Vicar and Kristyna Pojerova did not travel 4500 miles just to give an ordinary art exhibit! On Sunday April 13, from 3 pm to 9 pm, the ArtOrg gallery exhibit called "Czech Printmaking 2008" will open. The exhibit will feature work from eight contemporary printmakers from the Czech Republic, and the addition of about 20 artists from the University of Minnesota Printmaking Collaborative called "The Bohemian Press". We are expecting a great turnout and we are roasting a pig! Please join us! We are recommending that everyone to attend this opening event. There will be additional gallery hours announced on our website.

Artists represented from the Czech Republic with multiple works include: Jan Vičar, Kristýna Pojerová, Chrudoš Valoušek, Ladislav Sýkora, Václav Havlíček, Adéla Součková, Vojtěch šeda, Katka Sechovcová. Artists represented from the "Bohemian Press" with a single work each include: Ash Hane, Amy Joy Hosterman, Brian Borlaug, Cheryl Wilgren Clyne, David Donovan, Drew Peterson, Heidi Tolman, Henry Schneiderman, Jenny Schmid, Julie Dorn, Katherine Shannon, Laura Corcoran, Jon Mahnke, Mischa R. Kegan, Nancy Lee Nelson, Nile Eckhoff, Rebekah Champ, Robyn Carley, Sandesh Nicol, Josh Winkler, Patrick Vincent, Meena Mangalvedhekar, Elliot Manthey, Elly Sturgis, Troy Dolan, Stephanie Kriho, Paula Marty, Walt Leinen, Katelyn Johnson, Abby Kleinert, Stacey M.
