Hazel Condon Obituary
Hazel Condon, age 89 of Arizona and formerly of Northfield, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2008 in Peoria, Arizona. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am Friday, April 4th at the Church of St Dominic in Northfield with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8:00 pm at the Bierman Funeral Home of Northfield and at the Church on Friday 1 hour prior to Services.
Hazel Janet Condon was born October 30, 1918 on the family farm in Dicky County, ND, one of ten children born to John and Betsey (Gudvangen) Nelson. She was baptized at the Aurdal Lutheran Church in Forbes, ND. In 1923 her family moved to a farm in the Dennison, MN area, and 4 years after her father’s death in 1926, they moved to Northfield. Hazel began her education in Dennison and graduated from Northfield High School.
On November 22, 1938 she was united in marriage to James John Condon at the Church of St Dominic in Northfield. In addition to raising their sons, Hazel worked at the Denreck Pool Table Company in Northfield for 10 years and in 1962 began at Sheldahl where she worked for 33 years in their manufacturing plant. She also kept books for her husband’s business, Condon Sand and Gravel. Her hobbies included a large vegetable and flower garden, knitting and reading, league bowling, and she was an Avon representative for many years.
Hazel Condon is survived by son Joseph (Mary Lou) Condon of Surprise, Arizona; daughters-in-law Lois Condon of Palmyra, Missouri and Vicky Condon of Bloomington; sister-in-law Marie Nelson of Webster; brother-in-law Russell Grisim of Northfield; grandchildren Jeffrey (Jennifer) Condon, Charles (Melanie) Condon, Patrick (Jill) Condon, Michael Condon, Joely (Jason) Blesener; step grandchildren Jodi (Chris) Oines and Jani (Kirk) Wood; 9 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and loving friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband James; son James; brothers Anton, Chester, Howard and Ole Nelson; sisters Alma, Bertha, Hilda, Ruth Nelson, and Lorraine Grisim.
