Jerome Nohner, age 78 of Northfield, passed away Monday, December 31, 2007 at his home in Millstream Commons.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am Saturday, January 5th at the Church of Annunciation, Hazelwood with Visitation Saturday 1 hour prior to services at the Church.
Jerome Jacob Nohner was born December 19, 1929 in Eden Valley, MN, son of Isadore and Mary (Fisher) Nohner. He was raised with his brother and sister on his parent’s farm and attended country school. He began his working life driving a milk route and on May 3, 1952 he was united in marriage to Magdalene Francis “Maggie” Yanish in Watkins, MN. In 1956 they moved to St Paul, MN when Jerome began working for Fairway Foods which was a food distributor to grocery stores. In 1976 he and his family moved to rural Northfield when Fairway opened their new distribution center in Northfield.
Jerome and Maggie were members of the Annunciation Catholic Church of Hazelwood where Jerry was a member of the Knights of Columbus. They were longtime members of the Northfield Eagles and following retirement in the early 1990’s they enjoyed winters in Alamo, TX. They both loved dancing and went to all of the local ballrooms. They were very active with the Polka Lovers Club of America (P.O.L.K. of A) and often were in the Defeat of Jesse James Day Parade in Northfield on the P.O.L.K.of A. float dancing to old time music.
Jerome Nohner is survived by sons Robert of Northfield, Douglas of Minneapolis; daughter Tracy (Scott) Hrouda of Newport; brother Harold (Marge) Nohner of Hutchinson; sister Eleanor Neu of Inver Grove Heights, 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Maggie, daughter Doris, and his parents.
