Habitat for Humanity Home Dedication Sunday
Dedication of the new Rice County Habitat for Humanity home in Nerstrand will be held this Sunday, November 18th at 2:00 pm. The public is invited to attend. The home has been built in partnership with the Bridget Cook family. Bridget and her two children will live in the home.
Thrivent Builds (an alliance between Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and Habitat for Humanity) has been the major sponsor for the Cook family’s home. Numerous other sponsoring businesses, including VanHaren Construction, have provided materials and labor for the project.
The home, located at the east edge of Nerstrand on Lamb Ave. (Rice County 26) just south of Main Street, was built at significantly below market cost with volunteer labor and materials provided by numerous area contractors, church groups, and individual volunteers. This is the 14th home completed by the Rice County chapter of Habitat for Humanity since its founding in 1991, and the second home completed by the Rice County chapter in 2007.
The chapter, an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, builds simple, decent, affordable, energy-efficient housing in partnership with families who might otherwise not be able to achieve home ownership. Additional information on the Rice County chapter, including how to apply to participate as a partner family, can be found at http://www.habitatricecounty.org/ or by calling 507.323.5167.
