Northfield Public Library Board Meeting
The NPL Board met yesterday (Tues, Nov. 16). On the agenda was a visit from Samuel Demas, Carleton College librarian, a change in the 'late policies', reports from the various groups inside and outside the library, and talk of library donations.
Before we could get to Samuel Demas, outgoing Mayor Covey stopped by to express his appreciation for the Board's work. In turn, the Board commended him for his years of service.
Samuel talked about the upcoming sesquicentennial and what role the library could play in it. There was much discussion regarding the preservation of literature and documents that 'define' Northfield.
Library circulation is up five percent from last year. There was much discussion about modifications to the 'late' policy. Notifications are going to be sent out early than before - four days for videos and ten for books, down from seven and fourteen respectively. All this is to increase circulation - the more often the books turn over the fewer duplicate materials are needed by the library.
Target has given $1000 for the "First Steps" early literacy program. There was some discussion regarding Booker, the NPL bookmobile, and whether donors should be recognized with signage on the outside of the bus. There was no decision on the issue.
