Skateboarders to present program at NDDC forum Tuesday

Northfield’s Skatepark Coaltion will present the results of their many months of work on the proposed Skatepark, Tuesday, May 1, at the monthly Downtown Forum of the Northfield Downtown Development Corporation (NDDC).

Recent research indicates that a skatepark may be far more that a recreational opportunity for local youth.  The Coalition has case studies that demonstrate the powerful economic development potential of such parks.

The Skatepark Coalition includes the Northfield Healthy Community Initiative (HCI), the Northfield Union of Youth (The Key), the Mayor’s Youth Council, and the Youth Plus Action Team. The Northfield Skatepark Coalition made a presentation to the Park Board four months ago and has been meeting regularly with those board members since then. The Coalition will be presenting to city council in late May.

Joe McGowan will be leading the presentation for the Skatepark Coalition.  Joe is a senior at Northfield High School and will be attending The University of Arizona to study business and media arts this fall.

The NDDC Forum begins at 8 am in the Riverview Conference Room of the Archer House, 212 Division Street in downtown Northfield.  Everyone is welcome and coffee and cookies will be served.
