Editor's Addition: We just added a short video clip from the vintage baseball game, viewable if you read the whole story. Also: the online photo gallery is up to 165 pictures! If you were there, I bet we've got a shot of you...
Wow, what a party it was! The 4th of July brought thousands of people to downtown Northfield. We want to thank those of you who sent photos – and remind the rest of you that it’s not too late to add yours to the gallery.
Thanks to the proud grandpa of Max Albertson, 1, at left, who did a turn as Superman during the Kiddie Parade. Thanks to Bridget Spencer, who sent along photos from Monday evening’s entertainment, Mim Mueller for sending great photos of the Kiddie Parade, and our own Adam Gurno for sharing fun shots of the Vintage Baseball Game and the fireworks.
You can check out the gallery here. You can add your photos by hitting the Submit Photos option here or in the left-hand column of this page. Check back to see what’s being added. Now for the real fun. If you find your picture, feel free to write your own caption in the comment box below the photo. If you sent a photo, take the credit and put your name below the photo.
There certainly was plenty to see. Cyclists, from the best in the state to those still wobbling on training wheels, took turns tooling down Division Street. Contemporary tap dancers and old-fashioned bluegrass singers forced people to ponder how to clap while holding hot dogs, ice cream sandwiches and cold drinks.
The annual Northfield Criterium doubled as the Minnesota State Championship Criterium this year. Racers looped the downtown with style and grace as they proved who was the best in each class.
The only downer of the day was that the Northfield Historical Society still needs some help to cover the tab for all that fun. Marybeth Luing of NHS said Tuesday that the organization still was $3,000 short of meeting the $27,000 in costs for everything from fireworks to music acts. Just click here to get to the NHS website.
