Ole to Film Mockumentary: "Harry Putter and the Sorcerer's Phone"
Jeremy Gustafson, a 20 year old student at St. Olaf College, is writing and producing Harry Putter, a series of seven independently produced shorts which parody the Harry Potter stories by JK Rowling and associated Warner Bros. films.
Harry Putter begins filming this June and will have scenes on campus at St. Olaf that will require the help of local extras. Auditions for lead roles will be held on May 20. For more information on the movie and/or how to audition or be an extra, please visit www.harryputtermovie.com.
Harry Putter is a “mockumentary” with interviews and stories about the “real” boy, Harry Putter, upon whom JK Rowling based her famous books and movies. As Harry Putter explains, JK Rowling (and Hollywood) took a lot of literary license and changed or omitted many of the actual facts about his life for “artistic” purposes. Harry now intends to set the record straight in this revealing and honest documentary about his real life. Gustafson’s experience in the film industry started in high school at Minnehaha Academy where he acted in a series of monthly comedic videos.
The concept for Harry Putter originated at a WaZoo! Show script reading session in the summer of 2004. This is where Gustafson met the WaZoo! Show’s executive producer, Matthew Feeney. Feeney, who is an accomplished actor, comedian and producer, is also president of Walden Enterprises, a movie production company focusing on casting and production assistance for Minnesota independent films. Gustafson and Feeney have now worked together on several local films such as Stealing Summer, Fall Into Me and IceBreaker. Gustafson has also served as an extras casting assistant and wrangler on the major motion picture, A Prairie Home Companion, which was shot in St. Paul last summer.
